Due to the recent development around COVID-19 and the Luxembourgish government’s decision to close all schools as of Monday 16 March and prohibit any event in a confined space bringing together more than 100 people as of Friday 13 March, the board of the Fondation Jeunes Scientifiques Luxembourg (FJSL) is forced to cancel the Open House and the Award Ceremony of the National “Jonk Fuerscher” Contest, scheduled to take place in Luxembourg on 29 March 2020 at the Forum Campus Geesseknäppchen.
“It is with deep regret that we have to take this decision, but our hands are tied at this point and the only responsible thing to do is to follow the government’s directives in order to guarantee everyone’s safety and health”, so the president of the FJSL, Carlo Hansen.
The board of the FJSL has decided to continue to hold the interviews between the participants and the jury on an individual basis – in person or via video conference – on 28 March 2020 at the Forum Campus Geesseknäppchen, in order to allocate an appropriate prize to each project and thus allowing our young scientists to participate in international science activities throughout the year (subject to possible cancellation). Each participant will be contacted and informed individually of this measure.
Carlo Hansen: “The goal of the National “Jonk Fuerscher” Contest is to give our participants perspective, hope, and lots of courage and self-confidence to keep fighting for their future. We all depend on science, in order to create a better, safer world. This is why we consider it utterly essential to reward our participants for their hard work, regardless of the current situation.”
We would like to thank all of our partners and sponsors, our young scientists and supporters. We hope to welcome everyone at the next edition of the National “Jonk Fuerscher” Contest in 2021!
