Distribution of Lamium galeobdolon L. and it’s subspecies in the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg

Works at the population biology lab

The main goal of the project is to study the distribution of the different subspecies of Lamium galeobdolonL. in the Grand Duchy of Luxemburg as well as their ecological niches. At first vegetation and soil data were collected on 100 locations throughout the country. A number of individuals of each location were incorporated into a herbarium. Disctinction of some subspecies appeared problematic, while the scientific discourse over their classification is still in full swing. It was therefore decided to take the study a step forward by using genetic sequencing. First tests with chloroplast DNA show promising results.

The study is realized in the frame of an internship at the department of ecology and in co-operation with the departments of botany and population biology of the National museum of natural history Luxembourg.
